Italy – National Research

Throughout 2016 Cospe has carried out a national research dealing with the right to free movement in Italy and how or if it is enjoyed by young people. We have carried it out through conducting both desktop research and qualitative analysis, consisting in interviewing young people with Italian nationality who are planning to move abroad (within EU borders) and those coming from EU countries, having moved toward Italy in the last years; at the same time, we interviews representatives of authorities, experts on the issue. WHat emerged is that the right of free movement is facing many challenges. Young people move according to many reasons: job seeking, better life conditions etc.
Young people know they can freely move within EU borders, just because they have experienced it. However, some major Challenges still remain when we come to deal with the enjoyment of Free movement in practice, in terms of discriminations faced, access to information on permit of stay Etc.
