Cyprus – National Research

Cyprus is both a receiving and an exporting country. Cypriot youth started migrating mainly in the post crisis-era in search of better working conditions and better pay, as the crisis brought an erosion of working conditions, job opportunities and career advancement particularly for the highly skilled. Cyprus attracts youth from both Eastern and Western Europe, mainly to work in its tourism-related service industry. Whilst Western Europeans move in order to broaden their horizons and enjoy the warm climate, Eastern Europeans move  out of an economic necessity although the reality was disappointing, reporting widespread discrimination and, at instances, extreme labour exploitation.
